Banking on Volunteers – Corporate Partners in our Community
by Susan de Queljoe on October 21, 2009
On the way to work this morning, I heard something on the radio about
National Bank of Arizona and their involvement in the community. St. Vincent de Paul is one of the organizations that benefits from their volunteer efforts. In fact, they were among the first companies to step up and help serve breakfast in our
charity dining room on the
Human Services Campus. A dedicated group of their employees gets up early once a month to be downtown by 6:30 a.m. to feed the 400 or so hungry and homeless individuals who stop by for breakfast each day. Not being a morning person, myself, I especially admire this dedication. After serving everyone and cleaning up the dining room, the volunteers head to a full day of work.
Volunteers help serve lunch to those in need at the St. Vincent de Paul Phoenix Dining Room.
Coincidently, I was introduced to Keith Maio, president of National Bank of Arizona, at a social function last Friday night. He told me how much his staff enjoys serving breakfast to our guests. He lets those who volunteer wear their t-shirt for the rest of the day. He did admit, rather sheepishly, that this was way outside the dress norms at his bank. But by letting the staff wear their t-shirts, they attract others to volunteer and are building a greater camaraderie among the staff.
We have almost 200 corporate partners now, but always need more help. Denise Brittain heads up our corporate partnership efforts at SVdP and would love to talk to any company looking to become more involved. She can be reached at (602) 421-7106 or dbrittain@svdp-phx-az.org.
I love stories like this – when everyone benefits from their actions.
